General Donation Information
* Contrary to a recent artical, Organs are not taken until the donor is deceased except for voluntary living donations. The possibility of an error is about 1 in 46,000 transplants. That's also why your family is there, to insure your organs are not harvested prematurely.
* Besides, there is only a 1% chance you will die in a manor that makes organ donation possible. That's why we need everyones participation to save more lives!
* Organs are never sold within the U.S. but you can make a living donation to a specific person if you are a match. You can even make an anonymous living donation.
* Living Donations of Blood, a Kidney or a lobe of your Liver, Lung, or Pancreas, Stem Cells and more can be made. Liver lobe donations result in fully regenerated livers in both the donor and recipient in just 6 to 8 weeks.

Organs may include: Kidneys, Heart, Lungs, Liver, Pancreas and Intestines.**

Tissues may include: Corneas, Middle Ear, Skin, Heart Valves, Bone, Veins, Cartilage, Tendons, and Ligaments, as well as Face or Hands.**
- Living donations may include: Blood and Platelets (every 2 months), One Kidney, a Lobe of a Liver or Lung, Part of Pancreas or Intestines, Stem Cells plus extra Skin or Bone left from surgery, Amion after childbirth.
- Living Donation Requirements: Generaly to be between 18 & 60 years of age (or up to 80 if otherwise qualified), physically fit, and never have had :high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, kidney or heart disease.**

Please Note: a record 48,000 transplants were done in 2024 but a new person is added to the list every 8 minutes.
Approximately 17 deaths per day are a direct result of the low number of registered donors.
